Fiesta de San Juan Bautista

El primer relato en que se nos muestra a Juan Bautista es el de la Visitación.
Desde el vientre de su madre Juan inicia con su misión pues a un saludo su reacción es saltar de gozo y así estremece a su madre quien segundos después exclama palabras maravillosas a nuestra Señora.

Juan es el fruto de la misericordia de Dios para con Zacarías e Isabel, su nacimiento es causa de gozo y alegría pero al mismo tiempo es causa de interrogantes: ¿Qué va a ser de este niño?, ¿Qué misión trae consigo?

Pensando en la actitud de los padres frente al nombre del niño pienso en tantas personas que han defendido y animado nuestra misión y en otras tantas que nos ayudan a remarcar la identidad que nos viene de Dios.

Creo que cada una de nosotras, la humanidad entera, estamos para un propósito especial/particular, algo que sólo puede desarrollar la persona misma pero no en soledad egoísta sino en compañía solidaria.

Mirando nuestro mundo puedo encontrar rostros de mujeres deseando con ansia eterna la llegada de un bebe a sus vidas pero al mismo lado se puede encontrar otros tantos rostros que sin vacilar optan por dejar perder una vida que ya salta de gozo en un vientre que no desea acogerlo. Estás son las vidas que vuelven a Dios, vidas que no pudieron mostrar su rostro, vidas a las que no se les dejo descubrir y proclamar su misión.

Si pensamos en nuestra Sta. Julia recorriendo de niña los campos de trigo predicando a su paso a cuantos pequeños estaban a su lado, con certeza las personas adultas que la escucharon se habrán maravillado y sin duda habrá surgido en sus corazones la misma pregunta que se hicieron frente al nacimiento de Juan Bautista: ¿Qué llegará a ser de esta niña cuando sea grande? … Nosotras lo sabemos porque existimos como congregación gracias a que ella descubrió y realizó la misión que le venía del Buen Dios al ejemplo de Juan Bautista que con su vida y predica preparó el camino de nuestro Salvador.

Nos toca a cada una de nosotras, seguir descubriendo nuestra misión para continuar proclamando por nuestras vidas y nuestras palabras que Dios es Bueno.

The first time John the Baptist is mentioned in the Gospel is in the account of the Visitation. From his mother´s womb, John begins his mission: he jumps for joy in reaction to a greeting and thrills his mother, who, seconds later, addresses wonderful words to Our Lady.

John is the fruit of God´s mercy to Zecharia and Elizabeth, his birth is a cause for joy and gladness but at the same time his birth raises questions: What is going to happen to this child? What mission does he bring with him?

Thinking about the attitude of the parents with regard to the child´s name, I think too of the many people who have defended and encouraged our mission and of the many others who have helped us to distinguish our identity that comes to us from God. Now it is our turn to continue the discovery of our mission.

I believe that all of us, all human beings, have a special and particular purpose, something that only the person herself can carry out, but not in egoistic solitude but in solidarity with others.

Looking at our world, I can see faces of women who long with all their hearts to have a baby. At the same time, I see faces of other women who without hesitation choose to destroy a new life which is already jumping for joy in a womb, not wanting to accept the new human life. These are the lives that return to God, lives that never show their faces, lives which were not allowed to discover and proclaim their mission.

We think about St Julie as a child, running through the wheat fields, teaching her small companions about God. Surely the adults who heard her would have marvelled and without doubt they would have had the same question as that which was asked at the birth of John the Baptist, “What will this child be in the future?” We know because we exist as a Congregation thanks to the fact that St. Julie discovered and carried out her mission from the good God, just like John the Baptist. By his life and preaching, he prepared the way for our Saviour. Now it is our turn to go on discovering our mission in order to continue to proclaim by our lives and by our words that God is Good.

Cuando se le cumplió el tiempo, Elisabet dio a luz un hijo. Sus vecinos y parientes se enteraron de que el Señor le había mostrado gran misericordia, y compartieron su alegría. A los ocho días llevaron a circuncidar al niño. Como querían ponerle el nombre de su padre, Zacarías,60 su madre se opuso.
—¡No! —dijo ella—. Tiene que llamarse Juan.
—Pero si nadie en tu familia tiene ese nombre —le dijeron.

Entonces le hicieron señas a su padre, para saber qué nombre quería ponerle al niño. Él pidió una tablilla, en la que escribió: «Su nombre es Juan.» Y todos quedaron asombrados. Al instante se le desató la lengua, recuperó el habla y comenzó a alabar a Dios. Todos los vecinos se llenaron de temor, y por toda la región montañosa de Judea se comentaba lo sucedido.

Quienes lo oían se preguntaban: «¿Qué llegará a ser este niño?» Porque la mano del Señor lo protegía. El niño crecía y se fortalecía en espíritu; y vivió en el desierto hasta el día en que se presentó públicamente al pueblo de Israel.

When the time arrived for Elizabeth to have her child she gave birth to a son. Her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shown his great mercy toward her, and they rejoiced with her. When they came on the eighth day to circumcise the child, they were going to call him Zechariah after his father, but his mother said in reply, “No. He will be called John.” But they answered her, “There is no one among your relatives who has this name.”

So they made signs, asking his father what he wished him to be called. He asked for a tablet and wrote, “John is his name,” and all were amazed. Immediately his mouth was opened, his tongue freed, and he spoke blessing God. Then fear came upon all their neighbors, and all these matters were discussed throughout the hill country of Judea.

All who heard these things took them to heart, saying, “What, then, will this child be?” For surely the hand of the Lord was with him. The child grew and became strong in spirit, and he was in the desert until the day of his manifestation to Israel.

Mi nombre es Juana Jaqueline Castillo Salvador. Cumpliré 31 años en la fiesta de Juan Bautista. Nací en Tambogrande, Piura, al norte del Perú, donde nosotros tenemos una comunidad.

Soy profesora de primaria y en mi tercer y cuarto año de juniorado enseñé en Tambogrande – un año en la ciudad misma donde hice mis estudios básicos y el siguiente año enseñé en una zona rural muy alejada de la ciudad. El año pasado viví en Nicaragua donde enseñé a ñiñas con necesidades especiales.

I estoy preparando para hacer mis votos perpetuos pero no puedo participar en el programa en Namur porque tengo problemas con mi salud. Por lo tanto en este momento mi ministerio es quedar en casa, estudiar inglés, prepararme para mis votos y ayudar en lo que pueda.

Meet Sister Juana
My name is Juana Jaqueline Castillo Salvador. I will be 31 on the feast of St. John the Baptist. I was born in Tambogrande, Piura, in the north of Peru, where we have a community.

I am a primary school teacher and in my 3rd and 4th year of temporary Vows. I taught in Tambogrande, one year in the urban area in the school I attended as a child and one year in the rural area in school in the most isolated villages. Last year I was living in Nicaragua where I taught children with special needs.

I am preparing for final Vows but I have not been able to participate in the programme in Namur because of a health problem. So, at the moment my ministry is to stay at home, study English, prepare for my Vows, and help where I can.
