"Tell them above all that the holiest fast I ask of them is holy charity; that practice of charity towards one another I ask for incessantly.May it be the solid foundation in the bearing of one another's little weaknesses! This fast is of absolute necessity. Without it the physical fasting would be of very little value." St. Julie, Namur ,March 13, 1813.
Prayer The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom do I fear? The LORD is my life's refuge; of whom am I afraid? Hear my voice, LORD, when I call; have mercy on me and answer me. Ps 27:1
Dear God, my heart desires to see your face. Help me to see You in each person I meet. Help me reach out to everyone with Your love. Amen.
Pray for those who do not have the opportunity to go to school.
Fasting Do you watch Extreme Makeover Home Edition? Our culture encourages "re-doing" our personal space. It is part of being a consumer society. How can you raise your awareness of all you have and fast to change your hearts and habits? Be grateful for the place you call home and "make do" instead of "make over."
Fast from: † buying new paint, tile, flooring, furnishings, housewares, etc.
† accumulating stuff: clean out and donate your extra belongings instead.
† renting a storage unit.
Give Alms Use the money saved through your fast to help build the new school in Malava or to help rebuild St. Peter Claver. Here are some ways your alms can help:
Help us change lives: build a nursery school in Kenya and rebuild a primary school in South Africa.
Fifty percent of the population of Kenya is under 18 years of age. Our sisters in Malava see young children around them with no school to attend. Our sisters know the difference education could make in the lives of these children. They are starting out small with only three classrooms. They hope to build a school that can serve children from three to twelve. You can help turn their hope into reality.
Our sisters serving at St. Peter Claver in Kroonstad, South Africa have a well established school, but its foundation is crumbling beneath their feet. Why? Because forty years ago apartheid forced them to move the school into temporary builidngs. They were built on clay ground without adequate drainage. Now they need to build new buildings on solid foundations. They have started, but it takes a lot of classrooms to serve a school population of almost 1,000. You can help reverse the evil of apartheid.
