The students at the Justice and Peace School in Ugwuomu Nike, Nigeria leave no doubt in anyone’s mind about what they want. On move-in day, they marched their desks and chairs into the rooms and proclaimed that they were staying!

Stay they did, filling every available space – including the closets, where the youngest students attend class. The four-room building houses seven classes. Funding is now being sought to complete the school structure which holds the toilet faculties, at least four more classrooms and the administration rooms.

Small-scale international cooperation led to the construction of the present building. The school was using the town hall while they were searching for funds and during construction. A teacher for a training program from Liverpool Hope University felt connected to Ugwuomu- Nike and committed himself to the building of a new school. He and a friend were able to see the completion of four classrooms from their own resources.
Sisters Veronica, Benedicta, Jacinta, and Evelyn encourage and develop the spirit of the Justice and Peace School, while Sister Helena Boland helps with teacher training. We invite you to partner with these Sisters and their eager students, “continuing a strong educational tradition” in Nigeria. |
