SCRIPTURE

The Lord God has given me a well-trained tongue, that I might know how to speak to the weary a word that will rouse them. Morning after morning, the Lord God opens my ear that I may hear; and I have not rebelled, have not turned back. (Isaiah 50:4-6)

REFLECTION

  • What current of communication is represented in the photo of Tanisha Blevin and Nita LaGarde?
  • Did the child or older woman use words to reach and touch each other?
  • What words can you imagine as comforting and healing in the face of loss and tragedy?

There are no stored files or "pre-scripted words" to use to rouse the weary or downtrodden who struggle to survive disaster and near total destruction.

The prophet Isaiah recommends that we turn to the Lord God, morning after morning, with open hearts for hearing what to do and say in our efforts to serve. We learn what is appropriate and needed through our daily and consistent practice of listening to God in prayer. The Spirit of Wisdom, Understanding and Counsel gives us what is needed.

PRAYER

Prayer/Song

Spirit of the Living God,
Fall afresh on me.
Spirit of the Living God,
Fall afresh on me.

Melt me, mold me,
Fill me, use me.

Spirit of the Living God,
Fall afresh on me.

Prayer for Palm Sunday

Compassionate God,
Graciously heear the prayer of all who call upon you.
Teach us how to talk, how to walk and how to serve
in your name.

“Order our steps,” our entire lives,
so that we may bear fruit for You,
while serving with and for those who wait in hope
for your healing presence,
through Jesus Christ, your Son and our Redeemer,
today and forever. Amen.
