June weekend – Sr. Shamani Mampende, SNDdeN

It is that week when we come to say let faith lead, for reason cannot comprehend what we are about to express with our faith, Trinity Sunday. Trinity Sunday reminds us of our littleness, it reminds us of our prayer only helping us not God. It is a blessing to witness this Sunday to witness love, to witness mercy, to witness self-emptying, to witness humility beyond, to witness sublimity, to witness greatness, to witness the omnipotent, to witness the Hall of Fame of Heaven singing without end Holy! Holy! Holy! Lord God Sabaoth, (Isa 6:3).

Friends in Christ, we gather to celebrate the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit Sunday. Actually, the Trinity has made us gather, like the Psalmist, to say “You are to be praised and highly exalted forever.” Indeed, our God deserves this worship. As we have come following his call that we gather around his table and as guests, let us fittingly perform in that manner for our glorification and of all his people. A guest knows what to touch and what to say, if there is something they do not understand, they immediately ask.

What kind of guest are you? On this Trinity Sunday. Have you come to witness to love and give it, have you come to witness peace and give out peace? Have you come to stand like Moses in the first reading standing for his People, asking God to forgive and give a chance to sinners. Who among us has come to kneel like Moses did, from the table of his Word to the Eucharistic table; brothers and sisters, Moses poses a challenge that we are to remain awake, we are to remain focused. Not alone but together the goal is that we say (one day) with the Hall of fame of Heaven you are to be praised and highly exalted for ever.

To explain this Sunday or to be put it in our minds, take this Sunday and liken it to a child; their things that a child comes to learn by age; they are things not taught them when they are young but come to be taught as they reach adulthood. Just like a child who is months old, they cannot be given solid foods but milk from their mother. Our minds in grasping this mystery are such. God will reveal to us, when we mature, when we become adults. The journey of faith is such towards the Trinity. He is the one who teaches us to come to know, as it is put by Augustine that the Trinity is like the sea and our minds are like a drop of rainfall into the sea. Moreover, to understand and grasp the Mystery at our age, is like one digging a hole besides the sea and using a bucket to collect the whole sea into that hole. In primary math they say 1-2= it can’t. meaning there is no maths like this in primary. So are our minds “vis-à-vis” the Mystery of the Trinity, God who is one in three persons. Our minds are but just like that hole and the Trinity is that sea, it can’t. So, what we are saying is that we cannot exhaust, we cannot explain, but let faith lead. Do good just as St. Paul is encouraging us from his letter to the Corinthians. Live in peace and in this way we are exalting the Trinity. This is what Jesus was telling his disciples each visit he made to them be at peace. The trinity wants us brethren to live in peace. God sending his only Son, is his love, it is his Peace. He had seen how scrupulous we had become. Christ’s coming was to restore the aura of love and of peace. The Trinity wishes us to live in this way not any other but this way. Who among us is ready to empty himself for the sake of others. Catholics do not look down, head up, the world is in turmoil it needs us, those who said yes to his name and were baptized. The 18th General Chapter calls invite us to care and tend. Just as the Trinity works hand and glove let us join together and work towards peace. May our faith and its works lead us. May Christ whom we shall receive in the Eucharist give us courage, to empty ourselves and face reality. May GOD be praised and highly exalted for ever.
