Strengthening the Future of Gender Equality

The 69th Commission on the Status of Women marked the 30th anniversary of the 1995 Beijing Declaration and its platform of action that pointed out twelve critical areas that need urgent improvement to advance gender equality. This year’s Commission was a time of evaluation of global progress in gender equality and to make perspective for the future.

It was noted that significant progress was made in some areas, such as education, legal protection, and voting rights, but a lot still needs to be done in the areas of barriers to women’s workforce participation, gender-based violence, and technology. In addition, with the climate change crises, women are the ones who are the most.

These challenges have to be considered if the world has to achieve the 2030 agenda for Sustainable Development goals.

Notably, the participation of women who attended the 1995 Beijing conference inspired younger generations to continue the progress made.

The 69th CSW reaffirmed the importance of empowering women and girls, emphasizing that achieving true gender equality is a moral imperative and essential for building a sustainable, inclusive, and just future.

Delegates of the SNDatUN Office were composed of sixteen people of all ages, including students and professors from Trinity University, co-workers, and friends. In collaboration with Trinity University and Citizens for Global Solutions, our office planned and organized their second intergenerational parallel event on March 14th, Can Confronting Gender Gender-Specific Violence and Promoting Justice and Peace.
