Lent is the time in the Church’s year when Christians are called to begin a journey marked by forty-days of prayer, fasting and almsgiving.
Will you join me on this year’s Lenten journey?
God’s Word will be our guide. Stories from Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur around the world and children who lack one of life’s most basic necessities – pure water will set the direction. Here in the United States, children in Notre Dame Schools will join us in making a response.
Lent is about the promise of new life. Pure water is about the miracle of a healthy life. Lent and pure water are linked to the mystery of Resurrection.
My prayer for all of us this Lent is that we may arrive at Easter Sunday renewed and filled by the gift of New Life and Resurrection!

What is Lent?
Lent for Christians, is traditionally a forty-day period of preparation for Easter. It is a time when we deepen our relationships with God, ourselves and our brothers and sisters in Christ through prayer, fasting and almsgiving. It is an individual and a communal journey which brings us closer together as followers of Christ.
