On April 13, 2022, the Wednesday of Holy Week, the new Congregational Leadership Team (CLT) made their first “Visitation” of a Community of Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. Sisters Amarachi Ezeonu, Evalyne Aseyo, Lorraine Connell, Mary Johnson, Miriam Montero Bereche made their first journey together for a visit with our Italian Sisters in the Torpignatara section of Rome. Sisters Ester Maria Santucci, Luciana Maria Apollonio and Maria Rosaria Fiorilli welcomed the new CLT to their small home on via di Villa Certosa, 40.
Formerly, this residence and school of our Sisters was the property at “via Francesco Paciotti.” Our three Sisters now live in a smaller residence at the back of the property. This setting among the flowering gardens added an inviting touch to this CLT visit! Some will remember the section of the large garden where Donato, the brother of Sr. Maria Lucia Capoccia, SNDdeN (RIP), lived with his family!
During World War II, the original convent was bombed through the center of the building (down the elevator shaft). Our Sisters survived but were terribly shaken. During the Nazi invasions in Italy, our Sisters had sheltered and saved many Jewish families.
