Réflexions sur l'Evangile

Feast of the Resurrection of the Lord

Luke 24:13-35

Sunday Gospel Reflection by Sister Masako Miyake

Publié: April 16, 2017

Fifty years ago, I entered Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur just after I graduated from Notre Dame Seishin High School in Okayama, Japan. It was April 16. So, I have been reflecting on my journey as a Sister of Notre Dame de Namur throughout this special year.

When I started my journey, I only wanted to offer myself wholly to our Lord, so that He could use me as He wants. I never imagined all that has happened throughout these 50 years. My life as an SNDdeN has been a true blessing, but it has not always been easy.  At times I felt as if I had lost my way.

I saw my own journey in the two disciples’ story. Every time I faced difficulty, or experienced a sense of loss or disappointment, I heard His voice asking, “What kind of conversation is this that you are having with one another as you walk and are sad?” So I have stayed with and listened to Him, who drew near and went with me. I have realized again and again that I am here to follow Jesus who "suffered and … entered into His glory,” and I find Him walking with me. Throughout my 50 year journey, slowly but surely I have become more and more aware of the reality, “Jesus is alive.”

I am listening to a special song these days. This song shows my feelings a little more than I can put into my own words.

When I am down and oh, my soul, so weary;

When troubles come and my heart burdened be;

Then I am still and wait here in the silence,

Until you come and sit awhile with me.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;

You raise me up to walk on stormy seas;

I am strong when I am on your shoulders;

You raise me up to more than I can be.

Easter Blessings!
