LENT 2024

Dear Friends,

As we begin this season of Lent, do you find yourself asking? How did we get here? I feel like I just put the Christmas season away for another year?

Lent begins on Ash Wednesday – Valentine Day. ♥

Each year we look at Lent as a time to assess our readiness for Easter by our life choices. Pope Francis encouraged us to recall Jesus and his message of mercy and forgiveness; during these past 7 years, Pope Francis has called us to Care for our Common Home through Laudato Si.’ His letter last year Pope Francis expressed concern that we need to try harder; just SMALL STEPS will make a difference.

We have received an INVITATION! [ https://www.theletterfilm.org/watch/#watch ]

Will you accept the INVITATION from Pope Francis to join the journey to “Care for our Common Home” — this year with your small steps to make a difference.

“Can we find our way to understand the world as gift again, to make our relations with the world sacred again?  … if all the world is a commodity, how poor we grow. When all the world is a gift in motion, how wealthy we become.” (Braiding Sweet Grass, p. 31)

Watch the video, share the video with others. Make choices and decisions to make a difference in small and larger ways for care of the earth and each other.

Care for our Common Home (Laudato Si’) invites us to recognize our interdependence with creation, our reliance on each other for a healthy and unfolding environment by generating sustainability.

We need to redirect our behaviors and involvements to nourish a healthy and flourishing world proclaiming goodness and encouraging growth for all, while preparing a legacy for all who come after us.

You and a friend can made a difference in small ways that lead to bigger change.

Join with the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur this Lent to take the small steps of life toward a healthy and life-oriented earth.

The call of the Church to Pray, Fast and Give Alms accompany us as signposts this Lent, to engage us in support of Earth’s need of sustainable life. Live each day of Lent (SNDdeN 2024 Lenten Brochure) knowing you have responded to the call to nourish the earth and each other.

Together on the journey,

Sister Leonore Coan, SNDdeN
Director of Mission Support

“The most important thing each of us can know is our unique gift and how to use it in the world. Individually is cherished and nourished, because, in order to flourish, each of us has to be strong in who we are and carry it conviction.” (Braiding Sweet Grass, p. 134)
